Points Reqired for European Football based on previous Years
So do we reckon we'll creep in the top 6?
does the previous several years totals matter in what we call the weird season?
Having played a lot of big sides away already do we fancy our chances based on the below?

Technically joey's post wasn't incorrect.

They could end up getting more points by playing in the Europa than they would in the Champions League.

You're wrong (no real shock I know) but you get more points for progressing in the CL than you do in the Europa League.

What am I wrong about? Are you saying I didn't read it? Why do you have to be such a cunt?

I've never heard of their opponents in the Europa, FC Midtjylland - would be surprised if they didn't see them off - even if they did put out a weakened team.

agreed, but the standard in the Europa is a fair bit worse so they have a much better chance of getting through a few more rounds (providing they take it seriously)

fwiw I don't think there's much chance of us losing that fourth place for a good few years yet. only Italy that can challenge us and they've only got 2 sides (juve & roma) out of 3 in the last 16 compared to our 3 out of 4.

"In addition, four points are awarded for participation in the group stage of the Champions League and four points for qualifying for the last 16."

Had the Manc's qualified they would have picked up 4 extra points.

Of course we have no idea how results will pan out BUT you can earn more from the Champions League than you can the Europa League.

Re: Points Reqired for European Football based on previous Years
How do you gain 'points'?
Each team gets two points for a win in either European competition and one point for a draw, though points are halved for matches in the qualifying and play-off rounds.
Clubs that reach the last 16, quarter-final, semi-final or final of the Champions League, or the quarter-final, semi-final or final of the Europa League, are awarded an extra point for each round.
In addition, four points are awarded for participation in the group stage of the Champions League and four points for qualifying for the last 16.
The total amount of points a country gains is then divided by the number of clubs representing. Currently, England's coefficient for this season is 3.625, and Italy's is 2.666.

not sure exactly how much further Man U would need to get in the Europa as opposed to the champions league to even out

That's why I couldn't understand so many people being happy at Man Utd's early exit.

I read that you get the same amount of coefficient points for a win/progression in the Europa as the Champions League, so them going into the Europa could actually be good for English football as they're more likely to do well in it.

"there is a set of rules for season long loans?? "

Yes and the deal can only be broken in the transfer window with the agreement of the three involved parties.

1) there is a set of rules for season long loans?? and loan deals dont have all sorts of different clauses depending on the club and the player.
without seeing the contract just admit you simply dont know.

2) not seen that quote, feel free to pull it out. happy to admit where i'm wrong.
unlike some.....................

1) I know the rule regarding season long loan signings, seems you don't

2) Sullivan said at the time there was no loan fee involved but Norwich were paying 100% of his wages.

Simple stuff really

Re: Points Reqired for European Football based on previous Years
1) so you know the 'ins and outs' of Songs loan deal?? given he was injured when the deal was signed we would have some kind of break clause??

2) how do you know we didnt pay a portion of Jarvis's wages while on loan??

neither of us knows, and yet you know it is pie in the sky.
